This is a stainless and carbon kinetic sculpture I made in my garage for the company I work for. The globe is 14 gauge Stainless. The base is a combination of 1/2" bar, 14 and 7 gauge sheet, and 1/8" diamond plate carbon steel. The base is painted semi-gloss black. The globe is random ground with the inside painted semi-gloss black with a clear coat exterior.
12 pieces, 4x12 each, cut and rolled into semi circles then welded together. Bearings sleeves welded on each end.
14 ga cut to shape and formed by hand. 1/2" bar bent to follow contour of 14 ga. Diamond plate rectangles spaced evenly on backside. I then welded everything complete. Ground the surfaces that I wanted smooth and left the welds where they seemed appropriate. I then painted and assembled the piece. The globe is bearing mounted and rotates to promote human interation.
Homemade sheet roller, homemade rod bender, homemade brake, Grinder, Plasma, GMAW (carbon), GTAW (SS), and a shear.
