Project Submitted: 7/11/2013
This project is the creation of two styles of men's wedding bands.
The material for making the rings was composed of actual mission flown parts of the worlds most remarkable aircraft, the SR-71 Blackbird.
The material is a Beta 120 Titanium that was a part of the propulsion system that provided the thrust to push the SR-71's at over 2100 mph near the edge of space.
When the SR-71 were retired from active duty the remaining 22 airframes were sent to the worlds best museums and all the spare parts were destroyed.
A tiny amount of this material was saved to create jewelery and collectibles and promote the little known history of a top secret program credited for saving mankind from total nuclear annihilation during the Cold War.
The SR-71 Blackbird's still retain all of it's aeronautical records to this day including the all time top speed for a manned production aircraft, 37 years and still counting.
