We built a prototype whiskey barrel cooker for the Jack Daniels Cook off in Lynchburg TN a few years ago. Someone saw the pic and asked me to build them one for a wedding present.
A lot of this build was trial and error. We made straps to hold the barrel together then cut it in half. We also had to figure out a way to keep the staves (oak slats) in place once they dried out from the heat. Once that was done we CAD designed all of the plate and cut it on our servo plasma table. The legs are 1-1/4 solid sq which we twisted in a homemade machine we call "THE BEAST". The casters and wheels were all hand made here basically using plate and the servo table. We modified the bung hole (fill hole) to hold a thermometer, and the bung cap fit over it which was pretty cool! we had to vent the top and bottom of the barrel to allow cooling between the barrel and cooking skin. the barrel is removable from the cart, or you wouldn't be loading and unloading without ten guys. all moving parts other than the large barrel hinges were made by us. It includes, two fold down trays, charcoal dump, adjustable side air vents as well as stacks. The whole thing was left natural and clear coated All in all a great project. I went way over budget, but we wanted it right. Thanks for checking it out
Miller 212, Thermal Dynamics plasma, PlasmaCam 4x4 plasma table, and of course "THE BEAST"
