Miller's New XMT™ 450 CC/CV Increases Power, Flexibility and Value in High-Amperage, High-Duty Cycle, Welding Applications

APPLETON, Wis., Dec. 19, 2011 — Miller Electric Mfg. Co. has introduced the new XMT 450 CC/CV — a powerful new multiprocess welding power source that features 450 amps at 100 percent duty cycle and a maximum output of 600 amps. Improved arc control, a new digital processing board and proven Miller inverter technology make the XMT 450 CC/CV a powerful solution for fabrication, manufacturing, construction, shipbuilding, railroad fabrication, and maintenance and repair personnel who regularly perform Stick, TIG, MIG, Pulsed MIG, Flux Cored, and Air Carbon Arc Cutting and Gouging.

The new XMT 450 CC/CV features many of the technologies welders have come to trust in Miller’s XMT series of inverter-based multiprocess power sources: Lift-Arc™ TIG for starting the arc without the use of high frequency in TIG welding; Adaptive Hot Start™ for increased amperage at the start of the weld to eliminate electrode sticking; Line Voltage Compensation for keeping the welding output consistent even if input power varies; Fan-on-Demand™ cooling system that operates only when needed, reducing noise, energy use and contaminants pulled into the machine; and Wind Tunnel Technology™ that protects electrical components and PC boards from contamination.   

The XMT 450 CC/CV provides precise process control to create outstanding arc characteristics including lift start TIG for welding at low amperages on thin material, strong 6010 stick electrode performance, and outstanding wire welding processes (solid, flux-cored and metal-cored wire).

Providing the best amperage-per-dollar ratio of any welder in its size class, the XMT 450 CC/CV maintains all the benefits of Miller’s line of XMT inverters, including a single selector switch to simplify process selection, adjustable dig and inductance control, and a primary voltage display that shows what primary voltage the power source is linked to without removing side panels.  

Compatible with a wide variety of SuitCase® and bench-top feeders, as well as Miller’s advanced wireless control technology for both MIG and TIG welding, the new XMT 450 CC/CV features:

  • Improved productivity with increased amperage and duty cycle, allowing workers to weld or gouge longer, and with larger diameter wires and electrodes.
  • Improved power efficiency compared to older equipment. This reduces energy costs and allows companies to run more welding equipment off existing power.
  • Simplified user interface and controls for ease of operation. This includes a process selector switch and large, dual digital meters.
