I suspect your best return on your advertising investment will be "a great ad in the yellow pages" Thats where folks are going to look when they need some welding done... unless you are putting an add in the job section "Welder needs work ... reasonable and dependable"

I can tell you not from expierence but from what I usally do, is when we get a new phonebook I check the yellow pages, for new businesses or other stuff I am interested in. because if you can find a nice new shop they usally treat you better, and sometimes give you deals because there new to the area. Shane,
I would become good friends with the guys at local steel supplier, and give him some of your Business cards. ask him if he would send some business your way if someone need some help or welding done. & and the steel supplier guys know people in the welding business
both the guys in the office and in the shop filling & loading orders at steel supplier
I hope this helps

i have work farmed out to me. this, i hope, will give me word of mouth advertising wich i believe is the best kind. i just do it on the weekend an if i end up getting more than i can handle, i'll hire someone to do it for me while i'm at work. when that get's too much, i'll quit my job and be a full blown buiness. it may not be the fastest way to get there but, as long as i have good quality and get the product to them on time, it's garanteed work.

That's kind of where I'm going. I did get a sign in the ground and have some business cards coming. Lost job at Ford and took another job for a automotive manufacturer...GLobal Engine in Dundee, MI. Very secure as the auto industry goes but they are the new wave of manufacturing... no fabricating??? They want to farm it all out and have us just do PM"s. Boring! I need to accelerate my business and get out ASAP! But.... have to be able to substitute my wage, which is half of my Ford annual gross. I'm really grasping for straws and will take any advice you guys can give, I am very hungry to get my own work!
