My book only list a 8-inch x 23-pound, but with an 11-foot span point loaded in the center is good for 9,500-pounds

Welp according to my “Manual of Steel Construction” book,
    an 8-inch x 23-pound S-shape has a 7/16-inch web, and a 7/16-inch thick flange. The flange measures 4 1/8-inches across.

You don’t have an S-shape then! OK, have you found a trolley for that yet? They are expensive, and like hens teeth.

The capacity for a W – 8x 6 ˝ with an 11-foot span is 12,500-pounds point loaded in the center.

Here is how I adapted an HP-shape for the span beam of my bridge crane

Well an S-shape / I-beam has a tapered flange on the inside of the flange. A W-shape, and H-pile have flat flanges on the inside. A trolley that runs on a flat flange are like hens teeth, make sure you have the correct one!
