I thought I would pass on some of my more rescent effort. Last night I took an AWS Pipe Qualification- I passed the 6g on 6" sch40, 6011 root, 7018 fill and cap. This was the best pipe welding I have done and at the right time also. Anyone ever tells you pipe is easy they are just pulling your chain, that is hard work.

Paul,
Congratulations! Now where is the 6G with the 6010 root, hot pass, and cap? You know I am just picking. It's a great feeeling of elation the first time you pass the 6G radiograph test. I still remember it as a milestone for me. Glad you are doing so well!!!
BTW: We have always called it the arc and saw test. I guess now you know why?

Congrats on the test.
You may have already done this but while you got a good technique going it would be good idea to write down as much as you can about it. You'll be surprised how fast you forget it when you concentrate on tig or wire for awhile. Not just the basics like amp setting for the different passes but also hand positions when you come up the alternate sides. Also make note of how you hold your head with respect to sight lines at your groove. Makes it easier to refresh your mind if you don't do it again for 6 months.

Great job!
Out of curiosity, did you weld the root pass vertical up or down?
Regards,
