I am interested in buying a welder for mostly thin walled aluminum work (no more than 1/8) and some steel on the side. I have some friends who do alot of welding. One told me that welding al with a mig gives a terrible result and the other told me that migs do a fine job at welding. Could someone please help me decide whether I need tig or a mig.

I prefer TIG over MIG. TIG takes more practice and is better for thin stuff.

I would take the tig on thinner plate if you want to keep it pretty. On castings and heavier alum the mig and a spoolgun gets my vote...Bob
