Default GMAW carbon steel to stainless?

Which GMAW shielding gas would be best suited to weld 3F vertical downhill/uphill carbon steel plate to stainless steel plate..3/8" thick plate(for both)?

Currently we have tested 98%argon 2%O2 in the flat position using 309L (spray transfer method)wire and it seems to work fine...the problem is we do not have a unit that can spray pulse(out of position).

    Thanks

98/2 will serve your purpose on shortarc IF you have an inductance control you can crank. If not, your weld will not wet out! Do not use 98/2 if you will not spray. Pulsed stainless should have a major component of argon / helium / co2

Option 2 would be a helium tri mix for the shortarc.

Option 3 would be a 309LT flux cored wire all position. You would use 75/25 with that.
