    Default material for a pull up bar

    needed to make a pull up bar, what material do I needed to use?
    about 5ft in length needed to hold 200LB without flexing or bending

    black pipe ?
    or those chrome moly tubes4030/4040 ?

    just wanted to made one not buy one from a sporting goods store.

    Default It depends...

    ...where are you hanging it?
    I would use pipe and threaded fittings screwed to a doorway, tight.
    Of course I have no hopes of even pulling ONE up.

    it's a doorway walkway leading to my living room 5feet wide.... the not sure if 1 inch black pipes will be strong enough for that wide stretch. just needed expert opinions. Thanks for the reply.

    That is why I said THREADED ends. I thought you would figure out to lag them to a studs. Five feet is a long way and the "tension" on the pipe by "pulling" it to the jamb would add to the "system."

    Why 5ft.
    wouldn't 3ft be more than enough. For a pull up bar

    You could add vertical brackets to the ceiling, say a foot in from each side. That would give you an effective 3 foot span. Put a decorative panel or something in the middle that swings/lifts away when you want to do chin-ups. Make it look like part of the decor.
