I just got a miller hf-251d-1, I am running it off my aead... it welds nicely. I am used to tagging aluminum without foot pedal or finger control but it would be nice. I see the of box has a 14 pin receptacle. Is it able to control the amps if I just connect the pedal to the of box? Or does it also have to run to the welding source?

Must be connected to the welding source for amp control.

In general, you simply connect the foot control to the HF and you are in business. That is the beauty of the Miller 14 pin system. On the other hand if your AEAD is old enough that the 14 pin receptacle is not there, you are out of luck as none of the normal Miller foot controls is compatible with the older AEAD's and it in addition would require wiring into the machine. weldersales
