Have a 212 Autoset welder with only about 1/4 roll of wire used since new last fall. Suddenly in mid to higher amperages it will only weld about 1" then cuts out. After a couple minute cool down it will weld again but only for a short bead. Anyone know what might be going on?

Do you have the machine set at the proper voltage? Can be set at 208volts or 230-240volts.

Trying to help another fellow who does not have a computer. He is going to check that for sure. Only problem is he said he has used it before & never had any issues like now.

Talked to him & he checked. It is set on 230 volts. So what next?

Drive is too tight, best to loosen it untill the wire curles up nicely in the palm of his hand. More like the drive thermal is causing the drive to stop.

Thanks for the replies & especially cruizer who nailed the problem for us. Drive rolls had too much tension & caused it to trip out. We have a happy customer now & thanks again to cruizer for the solution, much appreciated.
