Here is a small steel rack I built for my shop since my other one is full. Used 1.5" X 1.5" angle. I made a couple ladder type ends connected with an x brace on the back. Openings are 7" x 7". Then I added a couple extra pcs. to make extra openings which are now 3.5" x 7"w. I was going to tie it into the wall but it is surprisingly stable so it stands alone.1130021304.jpg1130021541.jpg

looks to be very helpful, keeps stuff off of the floor, i usually make my racks free standing also, i do mine a little differently, well, the last one was different, i make 2, tripods, looking like the 3 legs of a telescope, or transit, ect, place then apart about 6-8 feet. tie the top and bottom together to hold its width, then weld short pieces on the 2 vertical legs to hold the steel, it works well cuz it can be loaded on both sides, sorry for no pics, i do like your design, it takes up minimal wall space.

Cool ! You never have enough storage. I made a small 4 shelf unit for all those short pieces that were in 5 gallon buckets and drums. I should have done it 20 years ago. Just never had the time. Keep up the good work.
I really expected to see I beam bases with 3'' pipe risers and arms coming
off like a christmas tree.

I only had 12" between the wall & the gantry. Mostly I just had stuff piled there until this design popped into my head. So simple but never thought of it before.
The other rack I have is more traditional. Tied into a wall with arms coming off but it was overflowing.MM250

I had a rack like this in my first shop... They fill way too fast!
Nice work
