Have a Millermatic 185. Been sitting for a while. Just replaced the liner, blew the gun out etc. Best way to describe it is the wire is loose in the gun. Put it back together, adjusted the tension. If you grab the wire at the gun end it will push back into the gun a good 3/8". So the wire is more or less floating around in the liner/gun. Any ideas???

Since you were just servicing the gun/liner, I would definitely start there. Disassemble the whole thing again and set it up again. Something may not be seated or aligned.

Are the drive rollers sized to the size wire you are using? They should have 2 sizes, like 0.030 & 0.035. You may have the larger size than the wire you are running, causing the looseness if you put them in wrong.

What size wire and tip are you using. I checked my MM252 at work today and the wire would push back a good 1/4". Thats just taking the slop out of everything between the wire and the liner. I have never had a burnback on my MM185 with steel wire. Now with alum thats another story...Bob
