Considering purchasing one or the other. Hobby welding w/ ability to do some occasional aluminum work. Quotes from lws puts the 212 about $900 more than the 211 both with the required aluminum extras. Does the 212 have the added features and abilities to make it worth the extra money.

The 212 has wheels and a bigger duty cycle and costs more. If you can swing it $$$$ and have the room for a wheeled welder go for it...Bob

I have a few welders for my business, but my usual go to welder is the 211. Simple, easy to use and does a nice job. Its also portable and has mvp capability....can't recall if the 212 has a mvp. It's hard to beat the 211 s ability in a small portable package! Hope it helped!

I note in the specs that the 211 is specifically limited to the 4043 series of aluminum wire while the 212 is not. Both say they will weld 3/8 aluminum. Is this limitation on the 211 only a function of the duty cycle or is there something else that leaves the 211 not recommended for say, 5356?
Doesn't matter if 4043 will do what you want to do and the ease of transport of the 211 certainly is a plus if your going someplace regularly with you welder.

For hobby welding the MM211 will probably do everything you need to do. Duty cycle shouldn't be a big concern, since your not on a strict timetable to complete a project for a paycheck. Portability of the 211 can be a plus factor over the 212, it's easier to take to your buddy's house to do some welding there. The $900 you don't spend on the 212 can buy you plenty of saws, clamps, grinders, project steel, wire, sheilding gas, an O/A torch etc.

The 211 I just got says it'll weld 2 grades of Al wire, but I've only found the cheap one locally. I started this with the Lincoln I was borrowing, and finished it with the 211:
