What size pipe? Why do you want to do this?

Yes you can fuse it, but why not just add some tig rod its easy.

I do a lot of sanitary welding and I do butt and run (fuse). It is very easy and it holds 250 psi without problems in 4 years. But if the joint is not 100% square, use filler wire. I run .035 tig wire. Not mig wire.
