. I assumed they took the old dist for a core, if you still have it you can use the old. Nice thing about a rod is you can see it engage.

What do you mean rod like a piece of round stock that's all the distributor shaft is a piece of round stock with a slit on both ends once it's over the oil pump shaft then runs up to the distributor
