When setting up a new cutting outfit, is it adviseable to put teflon plumbing or gas tape on the brass threads to prevent leaks?

Teflon tape won't hurt anything. Never use oil, paste, putty, anti-seize, etc...

why?
what would you need tape on? every new torch set i got had flare fittings on the hoses, regulators, and torch. i never had to put together anything with pipe fittings, unless changing the fitting on the regulator. it amazes me when people put tape on flare fittings. the seal is on the flare not the threads.

Teflon tape would only be used on pipe thread, never on any CGA gas fittings.
