I am always TIG welding ali or Stainless Steel so using magnets to hold stuff together when tacking is not an option. My bench top is ali so I can not weld fences onto it to frame weldments.
So I usually end up using 6 clamps to hold 2 sticks together while I tack. I can not say how many times I have put my gloves on, picked up my filler rod & flipped my helmet down just to have a clamp give.
With that said I had some time today to make up some "V" blocks to help hold weldments together.
6061 Ali sections.
