I am always TIG welding ali or Stainless Steel so using magnets to hold stuff together when tacking is not an option. My bench top is ali so I can not weld fences onto it to frame weldments.
So I usually end up using 6 clamps to hold 2 sticks together while I tack. I can not say how many times I have put my gloves on, picked up my filler rod & flipped my helmet down just to have a clamp give.
With that said I had some time today to make up some "V" blocks to help hold weldments together.
6061 Ali sections.

The "V" blocks hold just about every shape with just one clamp which I mounted to the "V" block.

Today I started working on the support system.
I have attached it to the members under my welding bench.

I needed to turn down this 25mm X 25mm square bar so it aligned with the main shaft.
The problem is that I don't have a four jaw chuck for my lathe. I rang up my rep but he could not get an adapter plate for a week to fit a new four jaw chuck.
I thought about the problem for a while and came up with a red neck way to get the job done.
Snap On would not like this use for their sockets so I used a KC Pro.
Not perfect but better than what I expected and the job was done today not in two weeks.JiGrip it and Rip it
