Lots of passes with a tip cleaner will eventually enlarge the hole. Remember a tip cleaner is a small, round FILE.
Not a problem with expendable cutting tips, but heating tips are more money and harder to find cheap on Ebay.
A wipe is also faster and wood doesn't deform the copper tip.
Not that the folks who did everything with OA when it was the only game in town and brought OA equipment to its highest degree of refinement and produced many torch models we still use today might KNOW something about how to use them....

sounds like your on the right track, internal.I drop mine off at LWS, takes about a week and get em back good as new.

I've done the wood thing forever. It works many times. If it doesn't work......then use the tip cleaner. Every old timer has done it that way forever.
Me.....different story. You better move away cause I'm liable to wipe a burning torch on about anything....maybe you!!!!
