Cruizer friend gave me his hertz meter. Cked and Big 40 running at 62.0 - 62.1 (high) will adjust today.
Question my low idle seems high also? Can I adjust with hertz or do I need tach.
    Thx Greg

A two pole alternator will produce 60 HZ at 3600 RPM (60 HZ X 60 seconds in a minute) I'm not familiar with the governor on these machines, but most AC loads will do fine at anything close to that speed. If weld performance is improved go for it. Servicing generators (Generac) I use a mechanical tach on the generator shaft, or on a motor shaft running no load.

I think Briggs offers a tach that measures vibration.

All engine driven welders ,and I MEAN ALL, are set via frequency measured at the auxillary terminals NOT via a tach or what ever other measurement (except for the likes of a SA200, which sits around the 107VDC mark NOT 98 as posted on the data plate)

Cruizer: did u see my earlier post for you.
Question I'm setting high idle as per your suggestion 60.5 hz. For 1988 Big 40 Diesel.
Low idle seems high, can I set low idle with hz meter or do I need tach.
    Thx Greg

Thank you. It was high on both. Set high to 60.5 (was 62.1) and low to 41.8 (was 44+) Sounds better on both now.
Thank you for your time & expertise !
