Trash Can receptacles

My boss wants to get new receptacles (4) for the premises, we are a garden co-op apts and by law we need them. We were looking at catalog but the price of this receptacles are way to high, about a $1200.00 ea plus shipping. If he buys the materials how much I can charge him for the fabrication/labor?. I own a Miller Maxtar 140 SRT and a Hobart 135 handler with a 75-25 mix bottle.

You can charge him whatever your time & material are worth. Figure out how long it will take you to make them, then multiply it by an hourly rate you are comfortable with. Add your labor plus material cost plus markup together plus paint or powder coating cost.

If you are using existing trash cans make sure they fit. If you are supplying cans make sure you can buy new ones to fit in the future as replacements.

Figure out what you think you can do it for and double that amount.

seriously those are 1200 dollars? man i need to get into the trash can bussiness, thats some easy money!!!! yeah these guys have good advice, just calculate matierals and what you want an hour and figure from there. And honestly, if they were askin 1200 for those, id just tell them ill do it for half that a piece, youd still make some killer coin from that job.

you have a good point but i guess to just make boss happy and make him feel like hes getting a deal, you telling me you wouldnt build one of those for 600 a piece?

You could get a grand and still give a deal while not leaving 400 on the table for the same work. Paint adds a lot of time and cost. You have to buy the materials out of this "600", the margins would disappear in a hurry and knowing the retail price is a gift, almost handed the cost to a guy with no estimating work.

And no,,, I would not build it for 600,,, especially when I know they cost 1200wouldn'tdn even need to know anything about fabrication, basic logic.
