    Default MIG together sheet steel

I want to weld together 6" of 12 ga (<1/8") steel sheet with a MM175 (75Argon/25Co2). I want to grind it down after I'm done and to look like there is no weld there.

I've seen where you grind a deep V and weld just one side and also where you grind the pieces to a point and weld both sides.

This may be a dumb question but is there any reason to prefer one over the other.

Why not just gap it about the width of the material or a little less and tack it turn it over and run a nice hot bead and penetrate 100%. 12 gauge shouldn't be a problem too get full penetration. Practice on some scrap to find a setting. My 2 cents.
