Well, feeder needs power to run right.... so you have the positive cable attached to the rear of the feeder and the sense lead goes to the plate (work lead) to complete the circuit. Power to the feeder in constant as caps are always being charged or discharged to maintain feeder out put.

In your machine mig mode there is NO power going out, Vsence merely turns that mig mode on.

Haven't seen a ln-25 or ln-25 pro that wasn't voltage sensing, though I don't care for the pro model.... If I was going to buy a V-sense feeder now, it would definately be the Miller X-treme

Voltage sensing feeders need to have constant live power. Any other setting runs thru the power source contactor, which pretty much shuts down your feeder. Think about it a little.
    Obviously, I'm just a hack-artist, you shouldn't be listening to anything I say .....

I agree about the X-treme,,, you can get real-time volts, amps, wire speed off the digital gauges. I had one, unfortunately somebody decided he needed it more than me. I know who, he's been told if he ever crosses my property line again, or even breaks down or runs out of gas nears me,,,,, (mumble mumble mumble).

I had to go back and re-read his OP as I originally thought he was saying his LN-25 would only operate as a VS feeder and doesn't have CV capabilities.

I realize now he was saying it wouldn't operate off his welder (XMT perhaps?) unless the power source mode was set to VSENSE.

I could not agree more, i have had an ln25 for 10 years, it has rode in a srv truck its entire life, been used and used......never an issue, friend of mine was so impressed he bought a new pro ln25, it has not been the reliable ln25 i had. Kinda wish i had not talked him into buying it.
