    Cool

I work across the street of a major scrap processor and the stuff i find on the way to work is so good. Just yesterday i stopped and picked up a cool light for a machine, it had a transformer and a welder plug also attached, package deal. And trash day is like a 40 mile yard give away ...Bob

Thats not really scrap, I do "scrapping" on the side and get lots of cast Iron and aluminum thats litterally scrap.

Smashed boilers and the such, I usually get about 3400-4000 lbs of cast iron per week for free so it isnt bad at all. Even though they only pay .09 per pound here, it pays for my gas and luch for the week, and I even got my biggest client out of it, repairing scrap Iron roll off dumpsters....

    1. Previously used stock = Answer to question that has not been asked yet.

    2. The difference between “Previously used stock” and “scrap” is directly proportional to storage space on hand.

    3. Wives cannot differentiate “Previously used material” from trash. Use the cover of darkness or misdirection when storing found materials.

    Default scrap

Yeah I pick up scrap from people all the time. Some of it I use to build things, some of it just goes into a large and growing pile behind the shop that needs to be hauled off to the dealer. We've also got alot of old equipment laying around at work that we are gonna cut up and sell for scrap, there is a wonderful money-making opportunity in selling and recycling scrap iron. We hope to have all of it hauled to Enid and sold by the time I ship to Recruit Training Command on July 11.

truer words have not been spoken. My wife did not understand some of the crap I keep until one day I saved her with a random piece of "junk". Now it's just all met with a silent rolling of the eyes.

I got a hard time about saving scrap. Until some of it turned into a smoker.

Nice smoker by the way, I like the 20MM ammo can for the clean out door. I think I'll steal that idea for the one I want to build. Never thought of them.

The firebox is actually an old propane tank for a forklift. I never knew they made them out of steel. The ammo box was an afterthought. I installed that after I realized I wouldn't have anywhere for the ash to fall. It warped while welding into place so I had to reinforce it with some 1/4"X1/4" angle (I think that's right, It was the smallest stuff the store had.) And I welded one of the latches shut so it works as a great hinge. The cooking chamber door isn't cut straight but I got a decent seal with it, and some of the welds are a bit ugly, but overall, It does a really good job. If you're interested in using the ammo box, lemme know I can send you some more detailed pics of the necessary mods.
