I was given an old engine hoist a couple of months ago, and after some seals, tires, hardware and a paint job, I got it looking good. Let's see some good mods for these things- I'm ready to mess it up. Also, the boom is fixed, and just raises up and down. What is the best way to weld something in the mast to make it swivel, while still retaining lifting capacity?

Stick rod welding would be the best way to weld something in the mast to make it swivel. Good Luck.

MIG or TIG would work equally as well.... it is really dependent on the way you do it and the skill you have..... coupled with the soundness of your swivel design......rather than the welding process used...... Originally Posted by Bistineau
