This was one of the most technically demanding staircases ever taken on by Elite Metalcraft, and it was for this reason we were chosen ahead all the other companies tendering this prestigious contract. This stairs has been featured on the X factor and in Hello magazine.

The staircase forms an elliptical profile on plan, and also on the landing balustrade. This proved technically beyond the capacity of most other companies. Because of our expertise in this area we were able to offer a value engineered solution which has become the trade mark of Elite Metalcraft.

The staircase is supported only at the top and bottom. This was made possible by using 2no 200mm diameter 15mm thick wall tubes as its spine with welded arms radially positioned to support the treads running the full length of the staircase. It had the appearance of a fish skeleton before being clad with folded metal treads. The soffit is finished in fibrous plaster.

The balustrade had an entirely different set of demands, as can be seen from closer inspection. Each bar is 15mm thick and starts at 24mm wide at the base and finishes at 9mm wide at the point of contact with the stainless handrail. This allowed the “basket weave affect” to become more aesthetically pleasing and was one of many key design ideas from Elite Metalcraft. The surface was ground to give an aged look and hand painted on site. The treads and risers are in polished marble.
