Tailgate Photos and Update

Hey guys,

Finally got around to taking some pictures of the tailgate that Dad and I built so here they are.

Also thought I'd update y'all on the old Ford. Put a battery in it the other night and everything seems to work okay electrically. Wouldn't turn over at first, soon traced this to the starter relay. Robbed one of those from a 67 Ford that Larry and I had sittin in the yard and fixed that problem. Washed the motor good and poured some Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders to provide lubrication upon startup. Hope to try to start it tomorrow evening when i go over there. I'll keep everone posted.

Nice job on the tailgate Bryce, I like the latch idea. If I may add a bit of advice though, on the latch, it looks like you may have had a little trouble with your amperage being too low unless Im not seeing it correctly. When you have something thin to weld like a latch, get yourself some 6013 rods and run them on straight polarity, you'll be amazed at the difference.

Very nice,what kind of hinges did you use. Also is the expanded metal tacked on the inside or outside.

As far as the latch goes, Dad welded that with his MM251. The expanded metal is welded on the outside and the hinges are the stock hinges from an 83 Chevy, was gonna use the original off the 94 but they were all one solid piece and we couldn't get them off the old tailgate.

Nice gate.....looks like some of the styling is carried over into the rack on the front of the bed behind cab?
