I just bought 2# spool of .035 Crown Alloys Royal 44-30 Premium Nickel-Iron-Manganese Mig Wire (ER NiFeMn-CI) to use with my Mig on some small castings that need built up. Figured i would give it a shot and take some before and after pics. The 2# spool was 75 bucks so it will be an expensive test but i have wanted to try cast and mig for 35 years. You can use CO2, Argon, or 75/25 gas and i have all 3 to try. I have some lathe parts to do then they wil be ground back to shape after filling the marks with weld. Pics tomorrow...Bob

I've been using that wire for many years to repair cracked engine blocks, cylinder heads, manifolds, etc. and it works great.
I've only had trouble MIG welding cast iron once. I was trying to weld up a crack on a very old exaust manifold and no matter what I did I couldn't get the weld to stick. I think that the manifold around the crack was too contaminated with exhaust by-products to let the weld stick.
But other than that manifold, I have successfully welded many many cast iron things using that wire.Miller Dynasty 200DX TIG

novel idea Bob... precooled cast or high gas bill for preheating. you got the snow but we got the water. i thought i was going to have fire up the boat to get to the shop. found out rubber boots and welding don't go hand in hand
. i'm interested in hearing your feedback as all i ever use is stick to weld cast....jim

I hate to bring up such an old thread.
With this wire coming in a 2 pound spool, how big is the center hole of the spool? Well these spools fit a normal 2 inch spindle?
Thanks in advance!
