Millermatic 200 gun cable flex groumet

Just picked up a Millermatic 200. Where the gun cable plugs into the unit there is a (for lack of the actual name) flexible groumet that shrouds the gun cable. Due to age of the unit this groumet has cracked and seperated to where one can actually see the woven wire that wraps the cable. I've been advised to just tape it real good with electric tape and its good to go. Now for the reason for this post - Is it safe to tape it up or should I replace groumet (whatever its called) or the dreaded replace the entire gun cable. The welder works fine. Serial number - JK634850 and I believe the gun to be GA - 20C. thanx

I assume you're referring to what is called the "strain relief" in the G-20C manual http://www.millerwelds.com/om/o1025d_mil.pdf as item #33. If so and you want to replace it rather than tape it up you can get one here http://miller4less.com/advanced_sear...d5ecaf5cda9872 for $11.35.

However, I suggest buying two as they have a minimum order amount of $20 so you'd wind up paying about the same for one as you would for two anyhow and you could replace both ends. Or figure out if there is any other part(s) you may need/want to add up to at least the minimum order amount.

I have run those GA-20c gun for a while and finally replaced with a Bernard Q gun and Miller M-25, both are better guns than than the GA-20c. They are both available on ebay for about $100.

M-25 is a fair gun.....CenterFire ROCKS!

I always prefer to replace parts that go out rather than finding a "fix". Fixes are fine if they're safe and I just need to get the job done. But I think the resale value is better down the road with new OEM parts.

Both the Bernard Q and teh M-25 are OEM guns.

The GA-20C was replaced with the M-25 as the OEM gun in 1995.
