Dirt Bike Stand

I do not recommend that any one do this.
It could be dangerous and could lead to injury.
This has been posted so others can see what I have done for information only.

That said.
I needed a cheap bike stand.
A stand to secure the bike with the back wheel off the ground for cleaning and servicing.
At the bike shop these stands made from ali cost $100.00. The problem is that they get trashed during transport or everytime a bike is tossed on top of them and that is why I decided to get a cheap on.

I went down to our local hardware store and purchased this step stool for $10.00.
It is rated to carry 100kilos or 200 pounds.

They don't weigh much, they stack but best of all they don't cost much.
Their one draw back is they are just a little short.

To get them to the right height I took a peek in my ali scrap bin and found a few bits they may work.
Because this is a prototype I was just going to tack weld the feet but as usual once you get a bead rolling along I find it hard to stop at just a tack.
These welds are not awesome because I was not sure this was going to work but they are sound.

After all four feet were welded I fixed them to the stand via a couple of self drilling tech screws.

These stands have to retain their best attributes, so after fixing the feet to them I tested their stacking ability.
Pretty good.

They still weigh not much and they still cost $10.00 plus some scrap ali, a little fab time and more AC TIG practice.

Time for the true test.
Can the bike stand be called a bike stand.

This was to be a true test so I just tossed the bike up on top.
I did not gently lower it down.
I also did not line the bike up perfectly on top of the new stand.
The back wheel clears the ground by about 25mm or 1 inch.

So far so good.

I guess the true test for a bike stand is to ask a teenage male to sit quietly on top of the bike while on the stand.
The stand passed all my tests so far.
I will give it a field test next time at the track.

Sorry KGIOR but those stools only come in blue.
Husaberg's are blue and owned by the Pumpkin Builders.
Some plastic primer and some correct colored paint would fix the problem or may be I should repost the images in black and white.
I should have tossed the YZ on top of the new stand for the photos but it did not need a clean.

HA HA you know I'm just kidding... I have red, blue, and yellow bikes in my garage maybe I can get an orange one next.

I think that is a clever idea and may have to keep an eye out for something similar.
