Its not just the aussies. I think everyone else in the world uses the word spanner for what we north americans call a wrench. Kinda like gas and petro

Thanks for the replies... I learn something "New" everyday... Or TRY to...
I was raised using Open End, Box End, and Combination Wrench as the accepted Terminology... And use "Spanner" Wrenches when rebuilding Ford 9" Removable Carrier Differentials, or Hydraulic Cylinders, etc, etc...

Actually it is just a general term, we call them a wrench, they call them a spanner.
