I am thinking about making a couple reels for my welding leads after seeing what one of the welders made. I would like to hear any suggestions and tips that you guys have to offer. Thanks in advance.

heres a set i made

no bearings, and they aren't hot, so it was easy to make
just plug in jumpers from machine to reels and you're ready

Welding Reels
My Dad made a set that held over 100' and could be turning and welding at the same time He made to copper plates that was a perfect mate and interlocked together used them for 15 years than sold the truck. Work really good can make a drawling if you want.
You will need a Lathe to make this kind where the kind Dave has would be easyer to make. And I'm sure works well.

There are only 2 tools needed in a tool box. 1) Duct tape to fix any thing that moves that isn't supposed to. 2) WD40 to fix anything that doesn't move but should.

welding reels
check the pictures I have of my rig under the thread. Hobart/ Miller at the lake. and you can see my reels, they are made from Alum. horseshoes. get a lot of comments about them. they are not live. have four. two for welding leads one for extension cord. and the other one I use for 200 feet of 10/3 cable so as to plug in my mig and tig welders for 220 power off of my welder. diverdown

homemade reel
I am in the process of building a set as we speak. Any luck and they will be finished this weekend. I built mine from some old trailer hubs I had laying around. I will try and post Picts when finished
