WWII Pilot Sculpture Update!

So I have some good news, and some bad news! The good news is that the sculpture is near complete. The bad news is that I will not be completing it! The man who commissioned me to make the sculpture has decided that he did not like the “look” of the sculpture and terminated the project. The good news is that by contract I got paid for all work done to date (including materials, and consumables), and I get to deliver him an uncompleted sculpture. I kind of feel bad because I put 6 months of work into this project and would like to see it completed, but I guess you cannot get to attached to your work!

My Grandfather is being flow up to DC from Dallas for a day of tours and being honored for his service along with many other WW2 polits next month. There is a very active WW2 veterans groups here in Dallas/Fort Worth.

You should consider either finishing the sculpture and donating it to a Veterans group that would place the sculpture as a permanent fixture or handing it off for someone else to finish that has personal connections to a Vet and would agree to finish it and see that it gets the placement it deserves.

I'd be that person in the Dallas, Tx area.

Beautiful work - shame it may not ever see the light of day.

I make stuff for fun and sell a few but have never had a commissioned piece.

I'll admit if I did take on a commission, I wouldn't know how to write up a contract and such.

But, I have learned from your post, that if I ever get to your level, I will get a lawyer involved so that if I had a client change their mind, I would have the option to buy back the unfinished work at some percentage and keep it.

So I was able to take the sculpture to The Great Lakes Art Fair this last weekend as a show piece. All of the comments were positive, So I am going to share these comments with AirMaster (the company that hired me) and see if he wants to continue with the project! Here is a picture of it at the the show!
