I have built one out of a piece of 12" diameter pipe that is 20" long and i used 4 way lug wrenches for legs. I used 1/4 " plate to cap the ends. I used a wrap around and took 1/4 of the circumfrence and left about 3 inches on each side and cut it out for my door. It works pretty good. I will take pictures of it next chance i get and post it.
This is what i am currently working on. it should look alot better after i get the paint/coating sandblasted off.

If you're bringing a German pale, I'll get whatever beef you want. Sorry. I'm used to people bringing Pabst and Old Style. Anything but Bud Light.

smoke
Here's a BBQ/ smoker that I built in my spare time. It's made from a 120 gal air tank, 1/4" plate steel from a demolition company. I have about $150 into it. I had a 125lb pig cook in it over the summer. Watch for more of my projects. Keep it simple and cook it slow. Here are the pics

Very nice Vitler!! I'd do a number of things different with mine, but for now I guess I won't argue with results. Besides, if I start another one now, I'll probably have one unhappy wife!!!!

Here are a couple of pits inspired by rig welder pits. Both are hitch receiver attachments,
1st is a 10" sch10 SSx16" w/SS shaker screen grill, rig telescopes on 2" in 2.5" sq tube, both 3/16"wt. for travel to and from the Texans games, has a 20" head w/SS expanded grill riding on a 1" SS threaded stock.
2nd is a similar pit for the BIL while he is in the field, used 10"x1/4" tube, is a take down unit and rides in the bed.
My pride is a scrapped SS Dr.Pepper 55gal drum w/1/4"and 3/8"SS tubing grill.
I have others, so not to clutter up the thread, nuff said.
Good luck

Now this is my kind of post. Absolutely doggone right. As long as one has fun designing it, scrounging materials, building it, cooking up some tasty meat, drinking a few beverages, and showing it off to friends and anyone else who will listen.........who cares what it looks like.
I can not see how anyone who spends too much on a mass produced, foreign made cheapo could ever get the same level of satisfaction.First MIG: Miller 172
Second MIG: Lincoln Idealarc SP-200
Current MIG: Powcon 400SM & PD 22 feeder
Jet horiz/vert bandsaw
Victor O/A torch and regulators
Jackson NexGen EQC helmet

I had one for my rig but I now have to build another one so here's a couple small back yard pits i have built. First picture is of a brisket I just tossed on the pit and the second picture is of the brisket cooked and ready to eat.

Should you . . .
Should you come across any pictures or have any ideas from those you have made or seen in the past, please share . . . .
My goal is to make the ultimate "Welders Rig BBQ Grill" . . . . .
I have seen seen some with plate ends, some with "bull nose" cap ends . . .
I intend to keep it pure "welders" ie . . . using grinding disk bodies for vent covers, welder's hammer for handle, etc . . .
Tailgating is really big down here in Cajun country . . . . LSU & The Saints . . .
So any ideas, enhancements or suggestions are surly welcome . . .
Thanks
