How They Make baskets
Saw on one of the cable channels how they make the baskets.
Take the rods weld them together at the both ends.
Put them in a forge so the middle is red hot
Chuck both ends in lathe chucks with manual turn crank on one and plunge leaver on the other.
Give the rod assembly two or three turns from one chuck
Plunge the other chuck end to expand the basket.
I has seen these baskets on work before but had wondered how they had made them. Then the pieces were welded onto twisted rods and a fitting crimped over the joint.
