I have a 3 wheel 2 x 48" belt sander on a pedistal base. It has no side guard.
I had to move it one day and because of the long cord and the crap in my way to the outlet, I just wrapped both arms around it to slide it a ways. Bad idea. My chest hit the power switch while my right forearm was against the side of the belt. Well, 3 hours, 13 stitches, and $700 later I was back home.
It would have taken me only 30 seconds to unplug it, but NO,.........I don't have the time. Dumb move

That's OK, years ago my cousin did the same thing with an electric grain auger, picked up the end by grabbing hold of the flighting, somewhere in moving it something caught the cord, which pulled the switch box off the post. The box landed on the ground, turned the switch on which started the auger and proceeded to wrap his arm around the flighting.
When his hired man found him the belts had burned off the motor yet there he laid unable to remove his arm from the auger.
Needless to say he needed more than a couple stitches and a long rehab to get back to normal.

Stuff like this couldn't be made to happen if you tried, but it does happen everyday to some unfortunate soul. Be careful out there..............

Made a potato cannon out of a 100lb propane tank with a 2"x8 foot barrel.at 175psi it would launch said potato over 1000 yards.well after a few barley pops,me an my bro decide it would make some cool bubbles if fired into the water,so we charge it up and off to the dock we go.we laid it over the end of the dock,straight down and sat on it because it had quite of kick.Well,8 foot barrel and only 5 feet of water and 3 feet of very soft mud.The last thing i saw before i closed my eyes is what looked like a brown mushroom cloud bigger than any bubble i have ever seen.When i opened my eyes there was a 25 foot brown circle of mud with me an bro in the middle.his brand new boat was also tied up to the dock and had an inch of mud all over it not to mention the two of us that only had two white eyes.The wives and friends on shore were laughing so hard that one of them actually peed and the others couldnt even stand up.Wow those were the days.

Ever had your friend tell you to put your glasses on?
Mine did and so I did and the next thing i know, Ive got a stainless steel wire from a wire wheel stuck firmly in my cheek- just below my left eye... My friend reaches over , pulls it out and it started to bleed. Amazing, those glasses are, You never really know if there working or not until you take them off or forget to put them on.. I owe my friend one...

We had this guy at work. He was brazing a 2" fitting up in the air on a ladder threw a opening in the sheet rock. When he finished the side facing him he decided to reach the other side of the fitting instead of moving the ladder to the other room. Well, he couldnt see where his rose bud was in the position he had to get into to braze the other side. Burned the heck out of his hand when the rose bud slipped into his glove. Ouch. Someone was joking that he would need a skin graft. (it wasnt that bad) We called him "a** hand" for the rest of the week.

Another time we wer working at LAX. The foreman asked me to change a valve up in the air. 50' in the air on one of the big lifts. First we shut off the valve, cutt and removed the old rusty galv pipe after the valve. Opened the valve to let the air bleed out. (it was a comressed air line) Well, 1/2 hr later the foreman comes by & wants to know why we were still changing the valve. We told him that we thought the line was still live. Me and the apprentace were all over the place trying to find an isolation valve for the hanger with no luck. So this foreman demanded that I do it on the fly. Well I knew better but wanted to keep my job. Off came the valve years of rust and all at about 500fps. Still have rust in my left arm and hand 20 years later. It was a bloody mess. Next time a foreman tells me to do something stupid Im not going to do it. Job or not.
