I have a 1ton HF chain hoist.
With any more than a couple of hundred pounds on it will spin down -
it won't hold the load stable. Soon to be replaced !

For what it's worth, I've had the one ton HF chain hoist for several years now and it has done all that's been asked of it including lifting a box body off an old trailer frame. Never had a problem with it. I say buy one, test it close to its load rating and if it doesn't hold, take it back. I'm sure you're old enough to know how to do it safely. If not, you probably wouldn't have lived this long.

I like the gantry idea. You should be happy when you build it. Good luck and have fun.

They don't make grade 8 in stainless.
