Fixing a 66" bucket. New edge, shanks, & a few wear bars on top of the old ones. I fixed this bucket about a year ago when they snapped the cutting edge & up through the sides. Pulled it all back with chains & binders & welded it up cause they didn't want to spring for any new parts then. The cutting edge held up but was worn then & worse now. They snapped a corner shank off now while prying & the mechanic welded it together for short term.
First pics are of the old repair. I don't actually have any finished ones of the old repair.

This time they wanted me to just replace the shanks & build up the scallops in the edge. I talked them into a new edge also. So here is progress pics. Probably finish on Monday. Old edge out, & new edge & corner shanks in.

Forgot to mention I'm changing the shanks to Cat style. The new edge is 2" x 14" x 70". Welding with Tri-mark 777 & ESAB 7100 ultra.
Edge, shanks, teeth & locks was $2783.00.Last edited by MMW; 04-06-2013 at 03:33 PM.

Pretty sure you can buy that edge with the inner shanks already installed.I believe there molded into the edge.Cat and Esco if my memory is right,Just saves some time welding them inners on.Only have to do corners after lips in.For future if you do this another time.Btw looks good.

Admweld, Dont you know what kind of site this is.

I heard the molded one break off really easy and are junk so you always want to buy them separate and have us WELDERS WELD THEM ON .
Theres nothing I like better than cutting into an old bucket, putting wear bars in, A little line boring here and there.

Finished pics. Edge & shanks are on. Added some wear bar sections on top of the worn ones. Added a couple plates behind the edge on the inside as it's wearing thin from the inside since it has 2 layers of bar on the outside.

Geez ooo peeets, That thing is never going to wear out.
Nice job MMW
Between you making things that never wear out and admweld telling people about moe boards with molded in shanks.
I'm never going to have anything to weld.

I've never seen a pre molded edge. While I was working on this the local Cat dealer rep showed up & told me he can get the edges with the center shanks pre-welded on. Didn't ask the price as I'm sure it's expensive from Cat.
Quote from Cat - 6 shanks (adapters) only for this bucket = $1800
My guy - 6 aftermarket shanks, teeth, pins & locks = $1633.00
I've never had a problem with the aftermarket shanks or teeth.MM250

Yup, When it comes to cat parts hold on to your a$$
After market is the way to go.
On the flip side the cat parts may last a little longer ( Higher quality steel ) but not that much longer to justify the inflated price.
