I got a new welder and need to get a gas bottle. I have an extra 20# steel CO2 tank from a beer setup that is currently still certified. Is there any reason why my local gas company can't switch the head out and fill it with mig gas? I realize that mig gas is sold by volume and not weight, but I don't want to buy a new tank if this will work.
Thanks in advance.

You can use CO2 as a shielding gas for solid wire mig welding.
If you want an argon/CO2 mix gas, take your CO2 bottle into the local welding shop and ask to trade it for a mix gas bottle & fill. It's done all the time.
