on my 3+3 dually, it had a performer carb on it and it would loose its prime after sitting. i had bought a fuel filter from jegs or summit, i cant remember, anyways it had a built in check ball to keep the fuel from bleeding back to the tank. it was an aftermarket in-line filter.well, the q-junk proved the reputation today. it started leaking fuel again (maybe the hard to start problem) and now it doesnt run very good at all. i took it apart and it looks like i am going to buy an edelbrock after all. the carb body itself has a crack in the front of it and the base is warped 9 thousandths from corner to corner. the stock intake is also cracked. i tore it down to the block and nothing there, but i am stumped now. what would cause the carb and intake to crack up like that? if i get time tomorrow, i will post pics of it. it can barely be seen up close, so i dont know how well it will show up in a pic.

i finally got my front drive shaft back from the shaft shop. the splines were worn so badly that it wouldnt pull itself, just slip. i have to put new u-joints in it now. i put one in two weeks ago. the one at the rear diff. now its time for the rest of 'em

I have to agree with Jason. I have never seen one crack on its own, especially an intake. Somebody may have tightened one corner down real tight then did the other causing it to crack. Can't guess why the intake is cracked unless its at a bolt hole, or dropped or somethingScott

i took pics of it, but the crack doesnt show up at all. it goes from the top of the cam valley up the front fo the intake to the top. the crack follows the same into the carb. all the way up to the top. oh, well. got a new carb and intake anyway.

That is wild. Can't figure how that happened unless something to do with the mounting of the intake. Probably the effect of someone elses work before yours. I only work on stock vehicles, never hot rods, so maybe the other guys would have seen this on after market intakes. Never seen it in a stock intake before. Always something new huhScott

BTW, I am still using this truck daily. I found an old AEAD legend 200 le that ive bolted on (old truck deserves an old machine)... i get smirks and giggles when pulling up on jobsites n all, but, i burn the same amount of fuel, just dont have a truck or welding machine note to pay for... I also have my 3/4 ton duramx with TB 302, but i enjoy welding off that old legend better than the newer machines....

Now that's something I would be into! I'd much rather drive something old, paid for, and easy to maintain (for work anyway) than something new that I care about scratching all the freaking time.
Now, idea time...take out the carpet, and have it sprayed with rhino liner on the floor...clean up only takes a rag with some water!
I'm turning a 1970 Chevy C20 Longbed into a work truck of sorts...mainly a parts hauler, and as a reason to justify spending long nights in the garage turning a wrench.Precision is only as important as the project...if you're building a rocket ship...1/64" would matter. If you're building a sledgehammer...an 1/8" probably wont.
