More steel in the United States is used to make botle caps than to manufacture automobile bodies.
I just read that in a magazine that just came out a couple of days ago.

what about soda cans/beer cans ?.....thats a lot of alum.

I had the stupid idea of making a Budweiser can flower, it was a lesson in protective clothing. The anodized/oxidized outer aluminium contained the heat of the arc - until the melting aluminium within exploded and sprayed metal out of the weld zone.

my brother welded two root beer cans end to end one time, the welds were relly crappy though.
