I know they are both for mild steel, but can anyone enlighten me on the subtle difference and best applications?
Thank you!

The "-2" and "-6" refer to the amount of deoxidizers that are in the filler rod.
The higher the number, the higher the amount of deoxidizers.
The higher content of deoxidizers helps to neutralize contaminents that can be in or on the parent metal.
For MIG, I use "-6".
For TIG, I use "-2".
I hope that helps.

You're the MAN
Thanks for the info Paul!
I figured there was a difference. I'll be using it for TIG so I'll go with the -2 rod. Though they look the same I'm sure they have different applications. It is like when I went to visit a friend and went to wash my hands in the bathroom, confronted by several pump dispensers. Thought they all looked similar, the hand lotion does NOT make good hand soap. Rather than make a similar error with rod selection, I figured it would be smarter to ask.
I greatly appreciate you sharing your expertise. I LOVE
this board because I knew that someone (like you) would not only know the answer, but would share it with a rookie like me.

No problem Dave.
Either wire will work for either application...these are just my preferences. Usually, the higher amount of deoxidizers is used when welding "dirtier" materials.
I have always prefered -6 for MIG for the best weld quality and -2 for TIG since everything needs to be absolutely clean before welding.
Good luck.
