I'm sure all of the other manufacturers will follow this new engineering design as well.

I imagine that it could be made to work -- truss designs with lightweight
members are used in all sorts of structures. Whether it's economical to
build or operate, or even do the design work, or whether it's better
than current practice, is another question...

mk10, I seriously hope your post was made in jest, the same as this reply is intended

I'll merely note that the "trailer" in question was on the streets
in a city that is in a country that does things like routinely
builds substandard schools that collapse in earthquakes,
or adds poisons to baby formula. I am not so sure that anyone
in that unnamed country really cares whether a trailer is adequate
to the job or not - even if it is pulled by bicycle


I do have a serious question though... Is it "reasonable" to use
tube for something like a trailer? I'm asking because, it seems to me,
a tube could corrode from the inside, and you'd never know about it
until enough material was lost that the member did not have adequate
strength and then kablooey. (I'm not planning to build a trailer, I have
neither the need nor the skills -- I'm just curious)

ok, thanks, I'm all screwed up now. I was just getting ready to buy metal to build a motorcycle trailer using angle iron. Brute throws in the idea of 1" tubing and now the truss design. I mean the motorcycle only weighs 650 lb so I could probably get away with 1/2" X 3/4" tubing, what do ya think. I dont expect to hit any bumps or rough roads in my travels

In light of the recent events I have an announcement to make

I am currently working on an engineering marvel pertaining to a new design for motorcycle trailers.

I can't release too many details until the patent goes through,.......... but I can tell you this much, the new motorcycle trailer will be a rather simple concept and it involves two skateboards and a piece of rope. If you can wait long enough for the patent to go through I will gladly send you a copy of the plans.

Thanks to all who have helped me look outside the box and come up with this new design. Royalties will be paid to all contributing members.

HMMMMMMMMMMMM, I wonder ... could that same design for the motorcycle trailer be extended to a car trailer? Then I could take back my new axles I won't have to buy any tubing, Heck I won't even need my welders.........just 4 INDUSTRIAL STRENGTH skateboards a few bungee cords and a DOT rope to Hitch it up with......Cool that'll be less that a Hunnert Dollars!!!I was looking to save a LIL money LOL JIM

anybody with experience building or pulling trailers chime in. i am looking at a 12 or 14' deck-over trailer, tandem axle(3500#), using a hidden hitch to pull it. the primary uses will be to put my welding skid on it or 2 quads. which would be a better axle to put under it? a torsion axle or a walking style spring axle?

Like Jim-TX said, try starting a new thread. You will get a much better response. Also I do not have much experience in the different axle's but I think a lot depends on where you are going to use the trailer, on rough terrain or semi smooth trails or on the road.
