Grumple,
I can't give you a heads-up on ring rollers. I don't have a need for one with the type of work I do...hobby guy. Too easy for me to hop in the pickup, head to the scrap yard 6-7 blocks from the shop and salvage something that will work for less than the cost of new steel...already made.
Ed knows his ring rollers. Ask him his favorites, wishes, longings, whatever.
If you don't want to send the bucks for a high dollar roller, build one. Gear reduction drive, motor and reversing switch should connect to a ring roller you made that will do the work you want it to do. No use spending big money...if this is a hobby.
The concept it dirt simple with room to go overboard if that is what you want to do. Spend your money on other tools and build yourself a ring roller sized to fit your needs.Miller 251...sold the spoolgun to DiverBill.

hossfeld
Look at Hossfeld's web site,
http://www.hossfeldbender.com/advantages/index.php
this page says what they can do. How well do they do it? Don't know yet but I just bought a #2 Hossfeld with 3 - 5 gallon buckets of dies. Haven't had time to look at it yet. My application will be bending scrolls, etc. for ornamental ironwork.
3 weeks ago had to make 8 sets of rings to exact dimension, 1 set to fit exactly inside the other. Used an old trailer brake housing that just happened to be the exact diameter, and hot bent 1/2" square bar, then hot bent 1"x1/4" flat around the 1/2" bar still on the jig. Slow but worked. If I had had the Hossfeld then, would have tried to figure it out for that project.
Hossfeld has a good reputation among blacksmiths that have them.Artist Blacksmith

I wish I could head to a scrap yard thats close by. The one I used to go to can't sell stuff to people anymore and thats where I would browse the yard and find all kinds of neat stuff I could use in projects. I guess I need to search out a new scrap yard. I have some time to figure out the ring roller as I have plenty to do in the mean time so I may just build one.
I like your signature with the 40x59 shop thats too small. I know the feeling. Mine is 40x60 and although 1 foot bigger (actually 40 feet) than yours, its too **** small too.
