Yeah, I was more concerned about making a pattern to cut it out from than how to cut it. I didn't want an egg shaped hole that I had an inch on one side or the other to fill in.

Even with some guess work you should be able to come close enough to burn it and have it weldable. It would be a big problem if you were to come up an inch off. Heck its so primitive you could hold the thing up there and burn around it till the pipe went thru the hole.

You could even burn the hole smaller and take a Crescent type wrench and flare the hole out for a custom fit.

If you want to layout, fishmouth a section of 3" cardboard tube or cheap 3" vent pipe and use it to trace over the tank.

Lot of good ideas here. I will let you kow what I end up doing and post a pic.

I almost lost my new welder to the storm here two days ago. Water over the back ditch came up the yard and into my shed. I happened to go out and see my Miller about 1/2" above the water. I managed to get it jacked up. That would have ruined my day.

    Bummer dude
It would be nice tho if you would go into your user profile and put in your location so maybe we might know what storm you're even talking about, and while yer at it you could put up you signature and that way we could know what welder you have
