I haven't read all the posts here but, quick question. Are there pitch horns on the rotors? If not how are you overcoming gyroscopic precession?

It's canceled out by each of the counter rotating blades. One blade would experience it but not two.

Using the 3D program, here are some computer generated rotor blades I have been playing with. If this works, and I can actually make my own blades, it will have paid for the program.

Your build looks real nice, but take out an insurance policy, and two, wear lots of padding. Something like that can go real bad real quick. Im looking into building a powered parachute which looks pretty crash proof, even if the engine fails. Good Luck!

Monte, it looks as if your well over the hump of committing yourself in this endeavor and do feel that with a good set of testing cycles in mind, success will be forthcoming.

I just put on 6 photos of my rotor blades nearing completion. Right now they all weigh within a half ounce of each other. I have to glass them and they will need to be rebalanced again. I finally got to the point after securing and safety pinning most of the bolts
and fixtures so that I could safely run the engine, drive shaft and rotor head
components and see how they worked. No rotors at this time. Here is a Youtube

Thanks for posting the video, it was great!!!!

1. How many hours do you have in the project?
2. Do you know your cost at this point?
3. What do your neighbors think?
4. Do all of the parts have to be balanced?

This project is amazing. To start from scratch and create a "flying machine" is unreal. Please keep us posted.

Thanks........It was kind of hard to hold the camera and control throttle at the same time so it's not the best video but the real purpose was to show the parts working at the least.

1.... no idea how many hours but it's a lot since other than engine, hardware, chain, sprockets, clutch etc, I had to make all the other parts with no plans to go by.
2...I have never figured cost yet...I already had the engine and most aluminum to make the hubs etc. I had to buy sprockets, chain, bearings, clutch and , lots of grade 8 bolts.

3....neighbors don't really care. We are on three acre lots and I have trees all around.

4.......All parts should be balanced but that ain't going to happen. Balancing the rotor blades is absolutely a must. I'll just do the best I can.

I'm not following the scary part... just find a test pilot.

BTW... Do you plan to free fly, once the rotors are attached, or have you considered suspending it between ropes, until you get the feel for it? The problems encountered with learning to fly a device intuitively are not only in controlling the vehicle's attitude, but also in controlling your excitement. Overcorrecting a change in attitude often leads to crashes.

BTW2... You've done a remarkable job. I share your excitement. Continued success.
