Let's give Schony a break here. Most likely just out of high school and as we all know the current education system doesn't prepare their students for the real world. And he's probably not real good with hand tools either. Sure hope he doesn't expect the rest of his life and products in it will be 100% perfect--he has another think coming.
Wait till his welding isn't perfect and he blames the welder but not the weldor. The definition of courage. "It's when you know you're licked before you begin, but you begin anyway and you see it through to the end no matter what." From "To Kill a Mockingbird"

Your statement is Funny, Sad , and True. He should return that broken welder get his money back, and Buy one online and get the SG100 with the MM180 for $1000. He over payed big time. HH187 is much cheap and of the same quality.
MM180 $611.11 plus $49.99 shipping Broken latch Shipping Damage

MM180 $773.77 free shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/MILLER-MILLERMAT...742.m153.l1262
MM180 with auto Set/ Welding Cart/ Spoolgun SG100 $1025 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/MILLER-MILLERMAT...742.m153.l1262
HH187 $646.77 free shipping
http://cgi.ebay.com/HOBART-HANDLER-1...742.m153.l1262
HH210 $829.77 free shipping More power and still less then $1000
http://cgi.ebay.com/HOBART-HANDLER-2...742.m153.l1262
Or buy this cool welding cart cause it has a handle. I can't stand the cart miller sent with the MM180 so cheap and no handle. $136.87

I would be all over the first one and make my own cart for about $50.Its a great first project, and Buy the SG100 for $200 shipped.
Sorry to ruin his day but he paid way to much $$$$.

See now you're just adding insult to injury.

Anyway though I would have fixed the darn thing myself and screw the warrantee. And if a warrantee issue ever did come up they could not reject a claim based on a busted and user repaired latch.
I've already voided the warrantee on my Syncrowave anyway I don't think they shipped it with a thirty foot cord

I'm sympathetic, my emotions would run high too in his situation; for that kind of $$, I wouldn't be expecting to start out with issues right out of the box. But, after popping the top on a cool cold one or two along with my expletive deleteds I'd get over it, apply some common sense to the situation, like what has been mentioned, and get on with life.

This is an irritation at best. No reason to get all bent out of shape. Just get it open and get on with it.
Might take all of 20 minutes if you go slowly and carefully.

Some of you guy's are pretty ignorant I MUST say!!! ALL I was trying to say is that it's sorta bull **** to see this sort of Quality coming from a company that is supposed to be the best. Plastic latch or not whatever it's disappointing! (I had to disassemble the entire case first thing!) And just so you know I am a Master Certified Automotive technician and am VERY good with hand tools. I only work with the best Snap On, Mac, Matco, etc. and have been for years! I guess I just have high standards for the products that I buy, and if I didn't I guess that this wouldn't have bothered me so much. I told the guy's at work about it and they all agreed, that they would be upset about it to. I ended up taking the case of the welder and grinding about 1/8" off the plastic latch and it works fine now. Also called miller and they are sending me another latch. (even tho I think that the case is supposed to be notched for the latch with mine isn't LOL
) I haven't gotten the thing put back together quite yet but plan on doing so later this evening. IF ANYONE OF YOU GUY'S WENT THREW THIS AS I DID I AM SURE YOU WOULDN'T BE HAPPY ABOUT IT!! Maybe you all need to simmer down a little bit and put your "Miller Man" ego to the side and think about things from a different point of view?

He isn't a happy camper. He should return the welder cause he payed way to much for it.$1000 is riddiculous even with tax. Go online and you will pay no tax. I own all Snap On, Mac, and Matco too. That mean you want the best tools. Miller is the best welder. But you wouldn't pay $500 for a 1/2" impact gun that retails for $275 would you. So why did you pay too much for a welder. Do some research first. You found the best welder just not the best price. If your happy then great, but you didn't get your moneys worth.
