Company Logo

Hello Gents,

I just recently took over my Father's Ironworks business, and changed the name to Federal Ironworks. I'm trying to come up with a business logo, I looked at some federal badges but I thought that might be to cheesey, I'm also looking at family crest symbols for a logo, but I can't come up with anything good yet. I wanted to know if anyone has some good creative ideas, I don't want to do the traditional logo of an i beam or a welding helmet everyone has that.

What comes to mind first is a large, metal looking type of slab. "Federal" is in raised lettering same script as FBI etc. shadow is down and to right. "Iron Works" is also raised lettering but is more block letters and they are riveted onto slab. Shadows again down and to right. Colour choices are up to you, only thing to consider is having colours that will still show shadow - if that idea even interests you. Never really did this kind of graphic design before other that the logo for my company (my avatar) and it's just about 8 years old. I am updating to a new tribal look. Same idea, just a new look for my new cards and invoices. Can't help it. Love wolves.

Don't discount 'traditional' too quickly.

It works, that's why you've seen so much of it over the years, and the basic/simple things have survived so well.

The common- guy under a hood, striking a arc with a rod is enduring.
It sticks in your head, says what ya do, and is easy to remember.

On a big sign, its easy to see for folks trying to get there for the first time too.


Years ago, on a nasty, torn up road, in a real bad part of town was one of the best automatic transmission shops that there ever was.

For anyone that called and wanted directions- they'd tell ya, "Come down such and such street. We're the only shop that has a hollowed out Peterbuilt truck transmission for a mail box".

As you went down the street, it was real easy to find the place,
it left no doubt what they did, or if you were where ya needed to be.

do you specialize in anything particular that you might want to work into the design. Such as ornamental iron, structural iron, general fab and repair...so on and so forth. SSS

I agree with some of the other guys about the traditional icons for the welding logo, but incorporate it into the federal shield. Maybe the federal shield wearing the hood, facing off to the side. Another thought that comes to mind would be to have a stinger or tig torch coming out of one side of the shield and the hood coming out of the other.
Whatever you do I would try to put the icon into it somewhere, somehow.Dave

I love it it came out really nice, Smith Lettering did a great job. If anyone from Metro NY or NJ area and needs to get their company logo painted let me know, I'm happy to help.
